Silly Birds

II Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work.”

It was a cold and dreary day in February 1975. As I sat with the Lord during my quiet time that morning, I was thinking about my life. My husband, a self employed builder, was between jobs. Our house was full of five children from the ages of 12 to 20. I asked God to give me peace regarding our financial situation. I prayed for a forthcoming job and that our needs would be met until then.

Later that day, I looked out into our backyard and saw that the bird feeder was empty. Little birds were fluttering around the feeder. I thought, You silly birds. You think there is no more food and you are looking very anxious. But I know I have a big bag of birdseed in the storeroom and you just can’t see it.

Suddenly a light went on in my head. Oh Lord, I prayed, Is that what you are trying to teach me? That I am fluttering around like those little birds, worrying about our next job, while all the time, YOU know where the job is and where the food is. It is only I who cannot see.

Prayer: Oh Lord, help me trust you for your provision. You are so faithful. Proverbs 10:3 promises that you will not let the righteous go hungry. Help me walk into this day full of hope and joy in you, knowing that you care for us and will provide for our needs.
